Quinton Dunbar has got his wish at least on the aspect of moving on from the Washington Redskins organization. The talented cornerback was traded to the Seattle Seahawks for a fifth-round pick, according to ESPN’s Josina Anderson.
Dunbar had wanted out of Washington after attempts for a new contract were declined by the team.
Washington was listening to offers on Dunbar, but viewed him as their CB1, according to the Athletic’s Grant Paulsen. However, he didn’t want to be in Washington without a new deal. For whatever reasons, the Redskins were not inclined to a new deal just yet.
Dunbar was rated the No. 2 cornerback in the NFL last season by Pro Football Focus. He emerged as the Redskins’ top cornerback.
Dunbar is set to enter the final year of a three-year deal that would pay him a non-guaranteed $3.25 million.
If there is any knock on Dunbar it’s not his ability but availability. He endured injuries over the past two seasons. He missed nine games in 2018 due to a shin injury that ultimately landed him on injured reserve. He missed five games in 2019, and a hamstring injury landed him on the IR for a second straight year.
Nonetheless, the Seahawks land a talented cover cornerback, who played at an All-Pro level last season. Washington loses a huge piece to their secondary that would have looked promising with the addition of Kendall Fuller to play opposite of Dunbar.
Redskins head coach Ron Rivera was prepared to move on from Dunbar, who made it clear he didn’t want to be with the franchise. Thus, they settled on a fifth-round pick which arguably could be well under his value.
