Let the suspense cease! Dwayne Haskins will head into training camp as the starting quarterback for the Washington Redskins. Yet, both he and recently acquired Kyle Allen will compete.
When asked if Haskins is the Redskins’ starting quarterback, going into training camp or will the two quarterbacks compete, head coach Ron Rivera confirmed while appearing on Charlotte’s WFNZ radio station.
“We’re going into camp believing [Haskins is the starting quarterback], but they’re going to be competing. At the end of the day, nobody knows what’s going to happen, so we just have to get ourselves ready. Really like what we have in terms of our young quarterbacks. Kyle is also a young guy, has a long arm, understands the game, understands how we do things, so I’m excited about what the potential could be.”

This should dispel the rumors and speculations of the Redskins drafting Tug Tagovailoa with the second overall pick. It also should end the speculation on how Rivera and offensive coordinator Scott Turner view Haskins.
Yes, Rivera has preached competition since being hired in January as the Redskins’ head coach. Names such as Alex Smith, Case Keenum and Tagovailoa were mentioned. However, the Redskins passing on Cam Newton, who Rivera coached for nine seasons, was a huge indication of where Haskins stood with his new coaches.
Trading for Allen instead and now Rivera’s new tune, indicates the Redskins want a competition merely to motivate and push Haskins along.
Now, it appears the QB1 is Haskins to lose.
