Washington Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo said no player has shown symptoms or required to be tested for coronavirus on a conference call, according to Jesse Doughtery of the Washington Post.
As of date, no confirmed MLB players have tested positive for coronavirus. However, several NBA, minor league baseball and NHL players have tested positive.
MLB has delayed the start of the season and stopped spring training. The league allowed players to leave their spring training sites on Mar. 13.
Last week, the league and players’ association agreed to a contingency deal for a shortened or cancelled season due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Rizzo also announced that the team has “totally” close their facility in West Palm Beach, FL. The Florida National Guard has taken over the facility for coronavirus testing until further notice.
Players were using the facility for workouts and medical treatment. However, the training staff will remain in operation but will search for places to continue required treatments.
Rizzo went on to say that 13 players have homes in the West Palm Beach area, and are isolating themselves, but will continue their throwing and workout programs, according to Byron Kerr of MASN Sports.
The Nationals have deemed travel for a handful of their MiLB players as unsafe and they are staying at hotels in West Palm Beach.
The Nationals have also closed Nationals Park in DC from players and faculty to following guidelines placed by DC mayor Muriel E. Bowser.
As MLB and the rest of the nation awaits the coronavirus pandemic, teams and players are forced to alter their normalcy
