The Trent Williams’ saga is over for the Washington Redskins. The Redskins finally moved on by trading the seven-time Pro Bowl left tackle to the San Francisco 49ers during Day 3 of the NFL Draft.
Washington received the 156th overall pick (fifth round) in this year’s NFL Draft and a 2021 third-round pick. The Redskins turned the fifth rounder into San Diego State center Keith Ismael.
The return was less than desirable for Redskins running back Adrian Peterson, who said he wished the team got back more in return for his good friend while appearing on the Redskins post-draft live stream.
āIt worked out. You know, obviously, the things between Trent and the organization werenāt where it needed to be. But, you know, I wish we could have got more for him.ā

It was a far less return that Washington initially hoped for, as reports suggested they were looking for a second-round pick in this year’s draft. However, the trade market wasn’t there for Williams.
Six offensive tackles were selected in the first round, eliminating a good portion of Williams’ suitors on the first day of the draft. The Redskins were close to a deal with the Minnesota Vikings, but the trade fell through at some point after Williams entered contract discussions with Minnesota, according an NFL Network report.
Ultimately, the 49ers swooped in making an offer worthwhile for the Redskins to salvage some value for Williams. The trade allows Williams to finally get out of Washington and resume his NFL career. Meanwhile, the Redskins avoid entering a second consecutive season with the same headache.
āHeāll be happy in San Francisco,ā Peterson said. āBut I know Iāll miss him down there.ā
