Patrick Ewing revealed Olympic gold medals and NCAA championship ring were stolen from home

Georgetown head coach Patrick Ewing revealed his two Olympic gold medals and NCAA championship ring were once stolen from his New York home during an appearance on “The Dan Patrick Show.”

“My house got broken into in New York, and at one point they stole my medals. So I called [former USA Basketball chairman] Jerry Colangelo, and he was great to be able to get me two replacement medals.”

Fortunately, Jerry Colangelo was able to provide replacement medals for the stolen pair.

Ewing won his first Olympic gold medal in 1984 in college alongside Michael Jordan and Chris Mullin. The three linked again for a second gold medal in 1992 as part of the Dream Team. Ewing earned his national championship ring leading Georgetown to the 1984 NCAA championship in their second of three straight trips to the national championship game.

Ewing, who was the first ever lottery pick being selected by the New York Knicks in 1985 NBA Draft, was able to retrieve his championship ring.

“They did take my college championship ring, but someone tried to sell it on eBay and I was able to get that back,” he said.

Ewing admitted this is the first time he has publicly spoken about theft of his memorabilia.
