Steelers rookie RB Anthony McFarland to wear No. 26 stamping comparison to Le’Veon Bell

A day after Reggie Bush said Anthony McFarland “has the ability to be just as good as Le’Veon Bell, if not better,” the Steelers laminated the comparison by giving McFarland Bell’s former jersey number.

The Steelers selected McFarland in the fourth round of this year’s NFL Draft. McFarland starred at DeMatha High School (MD). He overcame a leg injury that wiped out his senior year to showcase his pro-caliber skills at the University of Maryland.

As a redshirt freshman he exploded on the scene with 1,034 yards and four touchdowns in 12 games. An ankle injury hampered his redshirt sophomore season, but he still managed to score eight touchdowns on the ground rushing for 614 yards.

He has blazing speed, running a 4.44 in the 40-yard dash. He applies his breakaway speed on the field. He can turn any touch into a home run.

Bush gave his endorsement on Tuesday, and now the Steelers have flamed the comparisons to Bell with the assignment of No. 26. McFarland will have big shoes to fill as Bell was a three-time Pro Bowl selection and two-time All-Pro in six seasons with the Steel Curtain.
