The Washington Capitals have waived forward Brendan Leipsic following the leak of a private Instagram group chat. The team made the announcement Friday morning.
Leipsic signed a one-year deal with the Capitals last offseason. He had three goals and eight assists in 61 games before the NHL season was halted due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The leaked conversation showed Leipsic make vulgar, lewd and offensive comments towards specific women, including the wife of Vancouver Canucks’ Tanner Pearson.
Leipsic also made disparaging comments towards former teammates and Capitals’ linemates Nick Dowd and Garnet Hathaway.
Florida Panthersā Jack Rodewald also participated in the group chat.
