Redskins all-time sack leader Dexter Manley tests positive for COVID-19

Washington Redskins all-time sack leader Dexter Manley has tested positive for COVID-19 virus. Former teammate Darryl Grant shared the news on Manley on his Facebook Page.

Manley, 61, battled through a fever for “14 days” according to Grant.

Fortunately, his is currently resting “comfortably,” according to The Athletic’s Ben Standig.

Manley played with the Redskins from 1981-1989 at defensive end. He registered 91 sacks in the burgundy and gold, the most of any player to don the uniform. A record that has stood for more than 30 years, however, current Redskins edge rusher Ryan Kerrigan is on the verge of surpassing as he has 90 sacks.

Manley also holds the Redskins’ single-season sack record of 18.5 during the 1986 season. That season he earned Pro Bowl and All-Pro selections.

He won two of three Super Bowls with the Redskins. He along with Charles Mann were one of the most feared defensive end duos in the NFL at the time. He was named to the “70 Greatest Redskins” in 2002.

Dexter Manley finished his NFL career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1991 after a pit stop with the Phoenix Cardinals in 1990.
