Poker game argument allegedly led to Cody Latimer’s arrest

Washington Redskins wide receiver Cody Latimer became agitated after a poker game argument, leading to his arrest, according to Douglas County Sheriff’s Dept. police report obtained by 9NEWS in Denver, Colorado.

According to the report, Latimer was at the apartment of a friend for a poker game with about seven to eight people. The host admitted alcohol was consumed during the gathering. At one point Latimer engaged in an argument with another guest.

The host asked everyone to leave the apartment. However, Latimer reappeared to the apartment, eventually pulling out a black handgun from the pocket of his hoodie. He threatened both the host and his girlfriend by waving the gun. According to the hosts’ accounts to the police, Latimer said he had two bullets saved for them and that he will “kill everybody.”

At some point, Latimer fired two shots in close proximate to the host. That’s when the host tried pinning Latimer to the wall before he was struck with over the head with the gun. He eventually was able to calm Latimer down before police arrived to the apartment.

Latimer was arrested on five charges, including three felonies — assault in the second degree, menacing and illegal discharge of a firearm and two misdemeanors of prohibited use of a weapon and reckless endangerment

He was released on a $25,000 bond.

“There’s an entire back story to this situation that constitutes one of the most highly provocative situations you can imagine,” Lattimer’s attorney Harvey Steinberg said in a statement. “Please withhold judgment until all the facts of what took place that night are known.”

Latimer signed a one-year deal with the Redskins in March after spending the previous two seasons with the New York Giants. He was drafted in the second round of the Denver Broncos in 2014 where he spent four seasons with prior.
