Dexter Manley improving from COVID-19 but remains hospitalized

Washington Redskins legend Dexter Manley remains in the hospital but is improving while battling COVID-19, according to former teammate and Super Bowl XVII MVP John Riggins.

Riggins provided the update (via Manley’s wife, Lydia) on his Riggo The Diesel podcast.

“He is doing much better,” Riggins said. “I’m not sure he was ever really that ill, but his oxygen levels were a little low, they put him on oxygen, he has never been on a ventilator. All of this stuff is improving as we speak. He’s still got a little ways to go.”

Manley, 61, tested positive for the coronavirus on May 2 and has been hospitalized since Friday.

Manley played nine of his 11 seasons in the NFL with the Redskins. He is the Redskins’ all-time sacks leader with 91. In 1986, he had a single-season franchise record 18.5 sacks. He was named to the Pro Bowl and All-Pro team.
