The Washington Nationals have informed their employees they will have to take a pay cut. According to Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports, the pay and hour cuts affect all baseball and business-side full-time employees.
The pay cuts will run through the end of each employees’ contract. Baseball operations employees contracts finish in October. Business operations employees’ contracts run through the end of the year, according to Zuckerman.
The Nationals had paid employees full pay through May. However, they opted to take course what many businesses around the nation have been forced to do due to the coronavirus pandemic moving forward. It’s been over two months since Major League Baseball shut down operations, halting the start of the 2020 regular season.
Many of the 30 MLB teams are scrambling to adjust finances with no revenue stream. The Nationals had agreed to pay employees full pay through May. Washington’s decision to reduce pay and hours is to prevent coronavirus-related layoffs.
