Dwayne Haskins had a forgettable rookie season last year. The Washington Redskins quarterback is looking to dispel the narrative surrounding his career. But, first he must impress his new coaching staff.
That will be more difficult with OTAs currently put hold and players being unable to be at team facilities. The Redskins are relegated to virtual meetings during the coronavirus pandemic. Yet, newly-hired offensive coordinator Scott Turner appears impressed with Haskins’ progress, saying “he’s doing a great job” thus far.
Turner says the Redskins coaching staff believes in Haskins. He just needs to build confidence. He added Haskins’ abilities to stand tall in the pocket and deliver throws down the field stands out.
“Those are the things that really stand out. You are going to make money in this league by standing in there and making throws down the field when it is tough. He has shown enough of that. His eyes aren’t going to go down, and he is not going to look at the defensive line. He is going to hang in there and execute the throws down the field.”

Dwayne Haskins will benefit from having a coaching staff that believes in him. His previous coaching staff didn’t exactly display their confidence in him last year.
The more he shows he is learning Turner’s offensive system virtually, the more confidence he’ll gain in the staff and himself. That may go longer ways than his recent off-season workouts.
Of course Haskins will have to display that retention on the field when practices are permitted. Still, hearing Turner praising Haskins should alleviate some doubts of where he stands with the new regime.
