Patrick Ewing describes his experience with COVID-19

Georgetown men’s basketball coach Patrick Ewing says he is “doing much better” after being diagnosed with COVID-19. He added he was just taking it “one day at a time.”

Ewing was hospitalized last month after experiencing complications caused by the coronavirus. Speaking to John Fanta of the Big East Conference, the New York Knicks legend described his experience with the virus.

“I don’t really even know how I caught it, but I did. And I’m doing much better today than I was. … Everyone’s experience is different. My older daughters had it, who lived in New York. They lost their taste, sense of smell. Mine, I had the chills, I had high temperature, shortness of breath. Of course, you feel crappy, you don’t feel yourself. But I’m just happy that I’m better, and I say thank you to all the people at Georgetown University Hospital [who] took care of me.”

Over 2.4 million people have been diagnosed with COVID-19. The virus has been contributed to over 124,000 deaths. The number of cases continues to grow.

“Just be safe,” Ewing added. “Don’t take it for granted. Just continue to practice social distancing. Wear your mask, wash your hands, do all the things that everyone is telling you to do. Even with doing all that, you still might get it.”

Ewing is set to enter his fourth season as head coach of his Alma mata. The Hoyas finished last season with a 15-17 overall record and ninth in the Big East. He is 49-46 as the Hoyas’ head coach and has yet to reach the NCAA Tournament during his tenure.

Ewing will look to get the Hoyas turned into the right direction in the upcoming season. Georgetown’s top two scorers are no longer with the program. Mac McClung is transferring to Texas Tech after testing NBA Draft waters. Omer Yurtseven declared for the NBA Draft and will not return to Georgetown.
