Kendall Fuller was taken off guard when the Washington Redskins traded him to the Kansas City Chiefs in 2018. Fuller was dealt to the Chiefs for quarterback Alex Smith.
At the time of being traded, Fuller was viewed as the best young slot cornerback in the NFL. But, the Redskins had a glaring need for a quarterback and were forced to pay a heavy ransom to land one
As Fuller prepared to move on to Kansas City, the Redskins had him in their future plans.
In fact, the Redskins knew they would get Fuller back when the time presented itself. Fuller revealed during the Redskins’ “Offseason Update Live” show, one Washington executive told him the team would bring him back.
āThe day I left, one of the guys in the front office said to me, āWhen you hit free agency, weāre bringing you back,’ā Fuller said,Ā per NBC Sports Washington.Ā āAt the time, Iām sitting there like, āMan, yāall just traded me. I aināt tryna hear none of that. Itās crazy to think about that now because the day I left the facility, they said weāre bringing you back in free agency.ā
Fuller spent two seasons with the Chiefs, playing both outside and slot cornerback. He also played some safety, helping Kansas City win Super Bowl LIV — Fuller caught an interception in the game.
He became a free agent in March, inking a four-year, $40 million deal to return to the Redskins. Now back home, Fuller once again gets to suit up for the team he grew up cheering for.
In his first stint, Fuller was looking to make an impact as the third corner. Now, he returns as the premier cornerback in the Redskins’ revamped secondary.
