Nike appears to have removed Redskins merchandise from website

It appears Nike has reacted to the controversial name of the Washington Redskins. The shoe brand has removed the team’s merchandise from their website.

Typing the word “redskins” in the search engine of Nike.com does not yield results. Additionally, the team is missing from the alphabetical checklist of NFL teams. The Tennessee Titans are now listed as the last team.

Nike’s apparent move is the latest by a sponsor to apply pressure on owner Dan Snyder and the NFL to change the team’s name, which is deemed a racial slur to many.

FedEx formally asked the team to change the name, Thursday. FedEx has a sponsor partnership with the Redskins, including the naming rights to their stadium, FedEx Field, through the 2025 season.

Investors of Nike, FedEx and PepsiCo recently wrote letters to the companies urging them to cut ties with the Redskins if the team doesn’t change their name.

Nike is the uniform provider of the NFL, including the Redskins. Their deal with the league runs through the 2028 season.
