The University of Maryland have suspended voluntary football workouts due to a coronavirus. In a press release, the school announced nine positive tests for COVID-19 during their latest testing of student-athletes and staff.
Maryland had zero positive tests during initial tests in June before resuming workouts for the football program. The latest results are a setback. It’s unclear what sports the nine individuals were associated with, but nonetheless the school was forced to implement the safety measure.
Maryland’s shutdown comes on the heels of the Big Ten announcing its programs, including the Terrapins, will shift to conference-only schedules for fall sports. Big Ten commissioner, Kevin Warren warned “we may not have a college football season.”
