Josh Gordon hinted to be interest in joining Washington on a social media post announcing Kelvin Harmon will be out for the season with a torn ACL.
Gordon commented with the “eyeball” emoji. Quarterback Dwayne Haskins replied with an “eyeball” emoji of his own.
Both comments by Gordon and Haskins mean nothing in regards to Washington signing Gordon. However, it surely garnered attention of Redskins fans.
Gordon joining Washington or any NFL team for that matter is a long shot. Last month, he applied to be reinstated from his fifth suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. He was suspended indefinitely in December.
No one has questioned his talent on the field. Gordon was a first-team All-Pro in 2013 after leading the league with 1,648 receiving yards. But, he hasn’t played a full season since due to his struggles with his off-the-field demons.
Whether Gordon is a realistic option or not, Washington may be in the market for a wideout. Washington’s young receiving group was already considered thin before Harmon’s injury. Now, there is a gaping hole on the outside opposite of Terry McLaurin.
With Steven Sims Jr. expected to be the lead slot receiver, Washington is left with a group of unproven options to replace Harmon.
Antonio Gandy-Golden is a rookie. Trey Quinn has missed 17 games through his first two seasons due to various injuries. Cam Sims has yet to translate the potential he flashes in preseason when games really count.
Therefore, with Harmon out, there will be many fans and media who will get overly excited linking Josh Gordon to Washington. But, he may be just as unreliable given his history of instability.
