Larry Michael retires from Redskins’ play-by-play voice

The changes with the Washington Redskins continue. Longtime play-by-play voice Larry Michael is retiring from the team after 16 years, according to ESPN’s John Keim.

“After 16 great years my time with the organization is over. As of today I’ll be retiring from my position with the team. As a lifelong Washingtonian I was blessed to work with a lot of great people,” Michael said in a statement to Keim. “I want to thank everyone who contributed over the years. I’m especially grateful to Dan Snyder for giving me the opportunity. On to the next chapter.”

Michael’s retirement is days after Washington fired two top executives, Alex Santos and Richard Mann II. Washington also announced intentions to retire the “Redskins” name, this week.

Dubbed the “Voice of the Washington Redskins,” Michael officially served a chief content officer. He was the team’s play-by-play announcer on radio broadcasts. He worked on production of video content for the team’s website. Additionally, he hosted Redskins Nation, a daily show on NBC Sports Washington, as well as the Redskins Coach’s Show on NBC4.
