Julie Donaldson to replace Larry Michael as Washington’s Head of Media

Julie Donaldson is being hired by Washington Football to replace Larry Michael as head of media and lead their radio broadcast crew. Donaldson’s former employer NBC Sports Washington made the announcement Tuesday morning.

Donaldson will be Washington’s senior vice president of media. While she is expected to be in the broadcast booth during games, she will not do play-by-play, according to the Les Carpenter and Mark Maske of the Washington Post.

Instead she will be tasked with hiring a new play-by-play announcer to replace Michael.

NBC Sports Washington noted, Donaldson will be the first woman to be part of an NFL team’s broadcast full-time, according to Westwood One.

Donaldson will host the team’s shows much like Michael did. Her role on game day has yet to be define.

Last week, Michael retired after 16 years with the team. His retirement came hours after Washington was informed Michael was implicated in the bombshell Washington Post report of sexual harassment within the organization.

Donaldson had spent the past 10 years with NBC Sports Washington. She has been an anchor, reporter and host, covering nearly every team in the DC area. Donaldson also worked sports media in Boston, New York and Miami. Additionally, she is a former Miss USA Florida.
