Report: Nationals close to deal with Josh Harrison

The Washington Nationals are close to finalizing a deal with free agent infielder Josh Harrison, according to Jesse Dougherty of the Washington Post.

The addition of Harrison will add depth to the club’s infield for potential add as the season progresses. Harrison can play a number of positions, playing second base and third base primarily. He also has played in the outfield.

Washington’s current roster makeup will initially make Harrison a 60-man roster candidate.

Harrison is a two-time All-Star, playing eight seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Nationals had interest in Harrison in 2019 after the Pirates declined a club option. However, the team opted to sign Brian Dozier.

Harrison hit .175/.218/.263 with one home run in 36 games before suffering a hamstring injury. The Tigers released him in August of last year while he was rehabbing his injury.

Josh Harrison signed a minor league deal with the Philadelphia Phillies this past Winter. However, the Phillies granted his request to be released earlier this week.
