Washington Nationals ace Stephen Strasburg is going on the injured list with carpal tunnel neuritis, according to Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports.
Strasburg has been hampered with nerve issues in his right thumb since the start of the season. He was scratched from his first scheduled start of the season on Jul. 25. He worked through the ailment, making his debut Aug. 9 against the Baltimore Orioles. However in his second start Friday, Strasburg exited the game against the Orioles after 16 pitches.
Strasburg was seen shaking his hand after registering two outs and allowing a solo home run to Anthony Santander in the top of the first.
In five innings through two appearances, Strasburg has allowed six earned runs with just two strikeouts. He has a eye-popping 10.80 ERA as he head to the IL.
With Strasburg heading to the IL, Washington will have to scamper to reshuffle their starting rotation. Erick Fedde is expected to fill the void in the rotation while Strasburg is out.
