The 20-year old pulled a 94-mph fastball from Atlanta Braves’ Touki Toussaint 410 feet into the right field stands for a two-run homer.
Born May 16, 2000, García is the youngest player in Major League Baseball. He was called up this weekend to replace the injured Starlin Castro, who broke his wrist on Friday fielding a flyout. García had a mere eight at-bats prior to his at-bat against Toussaint. He jumped on the first pitch he saw from the Braves right-hander.
Luis García is the latest young phenom within the Nationals’ organization. With Castro expected to miss quite some time, García has an opportunity to sketch his name as the everyday second baseman. Alongside, Juan Soto, Victor Robles, Trea Turner and Carter Kieboom, Garcia appears destined to be part of the core of the future for the Nationals.
