Former Washington Football Team running back Derrius Guice is accused of rape by two women while he was at Louisiana State University, according to USA TODAY Sports. Both incidents happened in 2016. Both women where students at LSU at the same time as Guice.
A USA TODAY investigation found that the womenâs allegations were shared at the time with multiple people at the school â including at least two coaches, an athletics administrator and a nurse â yet the school does not appear to have investigated.
Guice starred at LSU, breaking the school’s single-game rushing record before entering the 2017 NFL Draft. Guice slid out of the first round of the draft amid concerns by NFL teams about his characters.
Washington drafted him in second round. But, Guice struggled with injuries appearing in a total of five games in two seasons. Washington released Guice on Aug. 7 following his arrest on domestic violence charges.
One of the women, a former LSU tennis player, spoke with Washington investigators at great length on Aug. 6 on her account of the alleged rape, a day before Guice was released by the team, according USA TODAY.
According to the womanâs attorney, Karen Truszkowski, a Washington Football Team attorney reached out to Truszkowski on Aug. 4, asking to speak to her client about her allegations against Guice. The official arranged for the woman to meet with a third-party investigator, Laura Kirschstein, on Aug. 6 over Zoom, in a call that lasted three and a half hours.
Last week, Washington head coach Ron Rivera declined to go in specifics that led to Guice’s release. But said it was a “tough decision” and noted the team took the allegations very seriously.
Both women said the sexual assaults happened in their apartments after they after nights of heavy drinking.
âAt no time were allegations of physical or sexual assault brought against Derrius during his years as a student athlete at LSU,â Guice’s attorney Peter Greenspun said in a statement about the developing rape accusations. âTo bring up such assertions only after the Virginia charges were initiated certainly calls into question the credibility, nature and timing of what is being alleged years later. . . Such speculation and innuendo should not be the basis for Derrius to be required to make any comment at all. But he wants to be absolutely clear. The allegations in this story are just that and have no basis in fact.â
The former LSU tennis player detailed her accusations in a June lawsuit in which she is listed as “Jane Doe.”
The second woman’s boyfriend at the time was teammates with Guice at LSU. The boyfriend alleged that head coach Ed Orgeron was made aware of the incident, but the boyfriend wasn’t satisfied with the coach’s handling of the situation.
Guice is also accused of threatening the second woman. Neither women reported the incidents to law enforcement.
Guice went unclaimed on waivers following his release from Washington. Among his domestic violence charges, Guice is accused of strangling his girlfriend which is a felony in Virginia in which the alleged incidents occurred.
Additionally, Guice faces charges for reckless driving. He is also being sued by a former agent for $500,000.
