Washington Football Team head coach Ron Rivera has preached tempo and intensity for practices throughout training camp. He apparently didn’t see that Saturday, as he ripped into his team following their practice, according to Sam Fortier of the Washington Post.
Rivera used veterans Adrian Peterson and Thomas Davis as examples for the team to follow.
Rivera went on to single out offensive lineman Wes Martin. Martin has got majority of the first-team reps at left guard with veteran Wes Schweitzer out. But Rivera didn’t seem pleased with Martin in today’s practice.
Following practice, Rivera added Washington’s coaching staff believes Martin has what it takes to start at left guard, but they wanted to see consistency, according to Kyle Stackpole.
Rivera is in his first year as Washington’s head coach and looking to set the culture even in practices. Saturday’s practice “wasn’t good enough” to him and his staff. He let the team know it.
Washington has a group of young players in key positions. Rivera wants to rid them of old bad habits and spark a sense of urgency in them. They got the message Saturday, if they didn’t already.
