The Washington Football Team has acquired offensive tackle David Sharpe and a seventh-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft in a trade from the Las Vegas Raiders. The Raiders receive a 2021 sixth-round pick from Washington.
Sharpe was a fourth-round pick of the Raiders in 2017. He started a total of four games in three seasons. In 2018, the Raiders cut Sharpe. He signed with the Houston Texans before being waived later that season. The Raiders claimed him off waivers for his second stint with the team.
Washington is in search of depth at offensive tackle. Geron Christian is expected to be the Week 1 starter at left tackle as Morgan Moses is the mainstay starter at right tackle.
However, free agent pickup Cornelius Lucas has failed to secure the swing tackle position for the Washington Football Team. Meanwhile, rookie Saahdiq Charles has been dealing with a calf injury that has held him out much of training camp.
Sharpe has intriguing athleticism and length at 6-foot-6, 330 pounds. With Lucas’ struggles and Charles still hampered with his calf, Sharpe could potentially be insurance for Washington behind Christian and Moses heading into their season opener against Philadelphia on Sept. 13.
