The Washington Football Team has signed former kicker Brett Maher to their practice squad.
The addition of Maher puts Washington at their limit of 17 players on the practice squad. Washington worked out Maher earlier this week. He was cut by the New York Jets on Aug. 31, as he lost out on the kicker competition to Sam Ficken.
Maher spent the past two seasons with the Dallas Cowboys. He struggled last year, making 1-of-5 field goals from 40 to 49 yards. He was 4-of-8 on field goals 50 yards and beyond. The Cowboys cut him in December.
Dustin Hopkins is entering his sixth season as Washington’s place kicker. However, with concerns of the COVID-19 pandemic, stashing away a suitable backup kicker on the practice squad is ideal.
