The Washington Football Team will be without its top cornerback when they kick off their 2020 season Sunday. Kendall Fuller will be inactive against the Philadelphia Eagles, according to ESPN’s John Keim.
Fuller has been nursing a knee injury that held him out of portion of training camp. Concerns of his availability rose when he was listed as “doubtful” on Friday’s injury report.
In Ron Rivera’s first season as head coach, Washington revamped its secondary. The biggest change was releasing Josh Norman in February. Then, Fuller signing a four-year, $40 million deal to return to Washington after he was traded by them to the Kansas City Chiefs in 2018 for Alex Smith.
Now, Fuller’s return in a Washington uniform will be delayed.
In his absence, another free agency pickup, Ronald Darby, is expected to draw top cornerback assignments for Washington. Jimmy Moreland and Fabian Moreau are expected to start opposite of Darby and play inside at nickel. Washington also has Greg Stroman and Danny Johnson at cornerback.
