The Washington Football Team offense has struggled to find its footing early in games. As a result, Washington has been outscored 37-7 in the first half by its opponents through two weeks. One large reason for their struggles is their inability to get top wide receiver Terry McLaurin going early.
Through two games, McLaurin has been targeted one time in the first quarter by quarterback Dwayne Haskins.
Only targeting McLaurin once in the first quarter handicaps the offense. Thus, putting immense pressure on Haskins to produce not utilizing the team’s best offensive player.
Third quarter is also a concern, especially since Washington has trailed by 10 and 20 points coming out of half time in each of the first two games, respectively.
McLaurin has 12 catches for 186 and one touchdown this season. He also leads the NFL in yards after the catch. Those numbers could be even greater if Washington offensive coordinator Scott Turner can get McLaurin the football earlier in games.
