Dwayne Haskins had least pressured game of career vs. Browns

There’s little debate Dwayne Haskins had the worst game of his career Sunday against the Cleveland Browns. The Washington Football quarterback stared down his receivers and made errors with pre-snap determinations that led to him throwing three interceptions in the game.

For the first time in his two-year career, a Washington loss could directly be pointed at Haskins. One stat illustrates why Haskins was primarily to blame for the team’s 34-20 loss to the Browns.

According to Pro Football Focus, Week 3 was Haskins’ least under pressure game of his career. Yet, he had his lowest graded game of his career.

The offensive line has been viewed as one of Washington’s weaknesses, especially at left tackle and left guard. Sunday, Washington was without its three-time Pro Bowl right guard Brandon Scherff, who is on injured reserve with a sprained MCL. However, the offensive line played well, keeping Haskins clear of pressure for more than three-thirds of his dropbacks.

Unfortunately, his poor decision-making with the football negated the line’s good work.

Surprisingly, Sunday’s game followed the trend of Haskins’ play thus far this season. Before the game against the Browns, Nicki Jhabvala of the Washington Post provided a telling stat, Haskins is better passing the football when he has less time to throw.

There could be a number of reasons to explain why Haskins isn’t as good with more time to throw. However, the narrative painted could illustrate him struggling through his progressions.

Head coach Ron Rivera said Haskins’ Washington teammates “deserve better” from him. Rivera has shown his support but also stressed “there’s a cut-off point” if Haskins continues to struggle.
