Washington Football Team head coach Ron Rivera said he received two bags of IV before Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens. Rivera has been battling through squamous cell carcinoma, a form of skin cancer.
Rivera went through a difficult week of treatment that forced him to miss Wednesday’s practice and leave early from Thursday’s for not feeling well. Friday, he said he had planned to receive an IV either before, during or after the game.
During the game, a 31-17 loss to the Ravens, Rivera sat on the bench between drives. He also was seen leaning on a Washington staffer as he headed back to the locker room at halftime.
Rivera fought through the physical hurdles to coach Washington through the entire length of the game. This is the second game Rivera received an IV treatment. He did so in Week 1 against the Philadelphia Eagles.
While Rivera has been strong, trying to coach through his battle with cancer, he admitted there is a chance he could be forced to take a step back from his coaching duties.
