Washington benches Dwayne Haskins in favor of Kyle Allen

The Washington Football Team is making a change at quarterback. The team announced, Kyle Allen will start Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams, as second-year QB Dwayne Haskins has been benched.

The change comes as Haskins continued to struggle in the eyes of head coach Ron Rivera. Ironically, Haskins had his best statistical game of his career last week against the Baltimore Ravens, completing 32-of-45 passes for 314 yards. However, the numbers didn’t impact the outcome of the game, as Washington lost 31-17.

Haskins has completed 61% of his passes for 939 yards four touchdowns and three interceptions through four games this season. He is last among quarterbacks in the NFL with a 30.6 QBR

Washington acquired Allen in a trade during the off-season with the Carolina Panthers. Allen spent the previous two seasons under Washington head coach Ron Rivera and offensive coordinator Scott Turner while in Carolina.

Allen, 25, started 12 games last season for the Panthers while Cam Newton was injured. He got off to a great start winning his first four games, throwing seven touchdowns against zero interceptions. However, he threw 16 interceptions against 10 touchdowns in his final eight starts.

Still, Allen has a better grasp of the offense and Rivera and Turner appear to have more confidence in him moving forward as Washington’s starting QB.
