Report: Jon Bostic likely to avoid suspension for hit on Andy Dalton

Washington linebacker Jon Bostic is likely to avoid a suspension for his dangerous and illegal hit on Dallas Cowboys quarterback Andy Dalton, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Dalton suffered a concussion on the play and was briefly knocked out as he lay motionless on the turf. Bostic flagged for unnecessary roughness and ejected from the game.

While he is still subject to a fine, the NFL is considering the hit as part of the league’s “standard discipline process” according to Mark Maske of the Washington Post.

Washington head coach Ron Rivera apologized to Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy for Bostic’s hit. Rivera also said he told Bostic, “You’re a veteran guy, you should know better.”

As ugly as the hit was, avoiding a suspension is fortunate news for Washington and their leading tackler in Bostic. The 2-5 Washington is one-half game out of first place in the NFC East and have a favorable four game-stretch after their bye this week.
