Report: Washington open to trading Dwayne Haskins for right price

With the NFL’s trade deadline a couple days away, the Washington Football Team hasn’t shopped recently benched quarterback Dwayne Haskins. However, the team is opened to trading the former first-round pick for the right price, according Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.

When Washington benched QB Dwayne Haskins, it started the clock on his potential departure from the organization. While the WFT hasn’t shopped their former first-round pick, this much is evident: If a team is looking for a high-ceiling QB to develop, Washington would part with him for the right price. As of now, that market has been relatively quiet.”

Haskins was benched after starting the first four games in favor of Kyle Allen. Haskins has been inactive for each of the last three games since he benching, as he is third on the depth chart behind Allen and veteran Alex Smith.

There was a lot of high hopes when Washington selected Haskins 15th overall in 2019’s draft. However, his time with the team has been tumultuous to say the least and he has ultimately become the next Josh Rosen in a mere two seasons.

As a rookie, Haskins had a sour relationship from the onset with lame duck coach Jay Gruden. But managed to start seven games last year following Gruden’s firing mid-season. He appeared to have a clean slate with new head coach Ron Rivera, but that relationship has seemingly soured after his benching.

Haskins’ camp feels a trade from Washington is “inevitable” despite Rivera’s claims he has not quit on him.

It will be interesting to see if a team is willing to pay the right price ahead of Tuesday’s trade deadline for the opportunity to develop the talented quarterback.

Through 13 career games, Haskins has a 77.8 QB rating. He has completed 59.6% of his passes for 2,304 yards, 11 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
