Nationals re-sign Aaron Barrett to minor league deal

The Washington Nationals have re-signed right hand pitcher Aaron Barrett to a minor-league deal, according to Jesse Dougherty of the Washington Post. Barrett receives a non-roster invite to spring training in West Palm Beach, Florida.

A mainstay within the organization since being drafted in 2011, Barrett was once deemed a core part of the Nationals bullpen. He made his debut in the majors in 2014, but underwent Tommy John surgery in 2015.

His recovery was stunted tremendously after suffering a gruesome arm injury while rehabbing in 2016. Ultimately, he battled through making an emotional return to the majors in 2019.

Barrett appeared in two games this past season. He elected for free agency after clearing . waivers in October. He appeared in 90 games through his first two seasons with the Nationals. However, he has just five appearances since 2016.

In addition to Barrett, Washington has given non-roster spring training invites to longtime infielder Adrian Sanchez and utility-man Brandon Snyder.
