It’s been a rough week for Golden Tate, culminating Friday with the talented New York Giants wide receiver being relegated to practice with the scout team.
Tate was wearing a red penny with the No. 17 as he mimicked Washington Football Team’s top wide receiver Terry McLaurin. The Giants are scheduled to play at Washington on Sunday.
The scout team placement — usually reserved for backups — comes just two days after Tate was told not to report to the team’s walkthrough on Wednesday. Then Tate stood around without reps for much of the open period for the media during Thursday’s practice.
It appears the receiver has drawn the ire of head coach Joe Judge after Tate and his wife expressed their evident frustration over the lack of role he has within the Giants’ offense.
Tate caught a touchdown late in the Giants’ loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday Night Football. The catch was just his second of the game, prompting him to yell “Throw me the ball.”
Shortly afterwards, his wife, Elise, used Instagram to rant about her husband’s lack of targets from quarterback Daniel Jones despite being “WIDE OPEN” on plays.
While Judge has tried to downplay the situation, Tate’s status and role for Sunday’s game against Washington remains unclear.
