Washington QB Kyle Allen carted off with gruesome ankle injury

Washington Football Team quarterback Kyle Allen was carted off the field after an gruesome ankle injury.

The injury occurred late in the first quarter when Giants safety Jabrill Peppers’ leg swept into Allen’s leg. Peppers had been knocked airborne on a chip block. As he came down, his leg made contact with Allen. Peppers was flagged on the play for roughing the passer.

Allen’s leg torqued awkwardly and he went down in a heap of pain. Players and officials on the field immediately knew the injury was serious, waving for medical staff to come on to the field.

An air cast was placed around his ankle and and he was carted off the field to the locker room area at FedEx Field.

Alex Smith, who suffered a serious and gruesome leg injury two years ago on the same field, replaced Allen at quarterback.

Washington announced shortly afterwards, Allen had been ruled out with an ankle injury.

Tight end Logan Thomas is the emergency quarterback for Washington. Thomas played quarterback in college at Virginia Tech and was drafted into the NFL as a quarterback.

Former first-round pick Dwayne Haskins is inactive for the fourth straight game since he was benched from starter to third-string quarterback back in Week 5.
