This season has been a struggle for all four teams in the NFC East. That was never more exemplified on the first offensive snap of the game for Washington against the New York Giants.
Washington rookie running back Antonio Gibson started the play with a nice 21-yard run. However at the end of the play, Gibson lost control of the ball as he was hit by both Logan Ryan and Blake Martinez. The football then became a hot potato.
Martinez was unable to hold the football. As the football bounced around, Washington tight end Logan Thomas had a chance to recover the ball. Instead him opting to scoop the ball rather than just falling on the ball proved costly.
Finally, the hot potato landed in possession of Giants safety Jabrill Peppers after bouncing around 26 yards. The less-than-ideal start for Washington turned into a comical moment and another example of the struggle for the NFC East.
