Report: Dwayne Haskins putting in extra film study, working out with receivers outside of practice

Washington Football Team quarterback Dwayne Haskins appears to be working hard to improve his status on the team. The former starting QB has been using better studying habits while working out with Washington receivers outside of the team’s practices since his benching last month, according to Darren Haynes of WUSA-9.

Haskins got demoted from starter to third-string behind Kyle Allen and Alex Smith after four games. Washington head coach Ron Rivera said he “saw enough” to bench Haskins. A report suggested Haskins’ poor preparation and practice habits contributed to his benching.

Rivera has consistently stated that he hasn’t quit on the 23-year old quarterback, who Washington drafted 15th overall a year ago. Yet his benching was part of his growth and development.

Being the No 3 quarterback limits the practice reps he’d usually have. Thus, Haskins is utilizing his resources to improve his work habits in an attempt to get back in good grace with Washington’s coaching staff.

Haskins was inactive for the four games that followed his benching. Rivera recently said he didn’t see Haskins moving up the depth chart, for the time being. However, Allen suffered a gruesome ankle dislocation in Washington’s 23-20 loss to the New York Giants on Sunday.

Allen will undergo surgery and is expected to be done for the season. Now, Haskins has been elevated to second on the depth chart. Meanwhile, Alex Smith will assume the starting quarterback position moving forward.
