New York Giants safety Jabrill Peppers was fined $11,031 for his leg whip that injured Washington quarterback Kyle Allen in last week’s game, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
Allen suffered a dislocated ankle and fracture. He was carted off the field and underwent surgery on Friday. He is expected to miss the remainder of the season, although there has been no official word by Washington as of date.
Following the Giants’ 23-20 win, Peppers claimed he apologized to Allen for the hit.
“I definitely didn’t mean for that to happen,” Peppers said, per Sam Fortier of the Washington Post. “I didn’t intentionally try to leg-whip him, or whatever the penalty was. I was just trying to play hard and get him on the ground.”
Peppers was sent airborne after being chip-blocked by Washington running back Antonio Gibson. As he landed on the ground, Peppers whipped his leg into Allen, causing the injury and drawing a flag for roughing the passer.
