The Washington Football Team Tuesday morning the team had entered the NFL’s intensive protocols after a player tested positive for COVID-19. That player has been revealed to be defensive tackle Matt Ioannidis, according to JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington.
Ioannidis hasn’t played since tearing his biceps in a Week 3 loss to the Cleveland Browns. He underwent season-ending surgery and was placed on injured reserve early October. He did not travel with the team to Detroit for Sunday’s loss to the Lions.
Ioannidis is self-isolated. All of his close contacts have been told to quarantine. Any player designated as “high risk” close contact must be placed on the reserve/ COVID-19 list. Those players will remain on the list and away from the team until five days have passed from their last contact with the infected person. They can resume club activities on the sixth day if, they continue to test negative for the coronavirus.
The team is hopeful there was limited exposure to Ioannidis.
Washington will conduct all team meetings this week virtually ahead of this week’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals at FedEx Field. But the team is expected to practice Wednesday, according to Sam Fortier of the Washington Post.
