Davis Bertans agrees to re-sign with Wizards on 5-year, $80M deal

Davis Bertans has agreed to a five-year, $80 million deal to re-sign with the Washington Wizards, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The deal contains an early-termination option after Year 4.

Re-signing Bertans was the top priority for the Wizards this off-season. Bertans, 28, joined the Wizards last season in a trade from the San Antonio Spurs. The Latvia native had the best season of his NBA career, averaging a career-high 15.4 points, highlighted by his 42.4% shooting from three-point range.

The $16 million per season average makes the 6-foot-10 forward the third-highest player on the Wizards roster behind star guards, John Wall and Bradley Beal. The expectation is Bertans scoring will see an additional increase playing alongside the play-making abilities of Wall.

The spacing within the Wizards offense should improve even more with Wall, a five-time All-Star, back on the floor after missing all of the 2019-20 season with a ruptured Achilles. Bertans’ sharpshooting will be an excellent complement of both Wall and Beal’s style of play.
