Washington is reshuffling their starting offensive line at tackle amid a rash of injuries for Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Stalwart Morgan Moses will shift from right to left tackle while David Sharpe will start at right tackle.
Earlier this week, Washington placed left tackle Geron Christian on injured reserve with a knee injury. He had started the first six games, playing every offensive snap before his injury following Week 6. The injury did not progress and now he will miss the next three games, at least.
His replacement, Cornelius Lucas had started the last three games, but he suffered an ankle injury in last week’s loss to the Detroit Lions. Lucas will be inactive Sunday against the Bengals.
Moses played left tackle in college at the University of Virginia but, he has been a mainstay at right tackle since 2015 as a pro with Washington. He will slide over to protect the blindside of quarterback Alex Smith, as he is the most reliable healthy option remaining.
Washington acquired David Sharpe in a trade from the Las Vegas Raiders just before the start of the regular season. He has appeared in four games this season as a swing tackle and playing mostly special teams. However, he played 24 snaps at right tackle last week in Detroit following Lucas’ injury.
