Chase Young capped a dominant first half with a 47-yard fumble return for a touchdown to give Washington a 13-7 lead over the San Francisco 49ers.
Daron Payne stripped the ball loose from San Francisco quarterback Nick Mullens. Young scooped the free ball before turning on the jets down the sidelines to pay dirt.
Young filled up the stat sheet in the first half, recording a sack and a forced fumble earlier in the game to add to his fumble recovery for a touchdown. He becomes the first player in Washington Football Team franchise history to achieve such a feat, according to Washington’s PR.
Young entered Sunday’s game as the highest graded defensive rookie by Pro Football Focus, that’s despite his mom giving him a C+ because of his lack of sacks. However, the rookie has been impressive throughout the year. Against the 49ers, the stats equal the impact he has made for the Washington defense.
