Alex Smith was full participant in Friday’s practice, listed as questionable vs. Panthers

Alex Smith was a full participant in Washington’s practice Friday. It was the first time he fully practiced since suffering a right calf strain in Week 14 against the San Francisco 49ers.

Smith took majority of the first-team snaps in practice, according to Nicki Jhabvala of the Washington Post — a huge step in his progress.

Washington has listed Smith as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers. However, his chances of playing in the game are still considered 50/50, according to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Smith “absolutely” plans to play and is doing “everything” possible to be on the field Sunday.

Smith missed last week’s game against the Seattle Seahawks — a 20-15 loss. Dwayne Haskins started in his place, throwing for 295 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Despite his troubled week, Washington has been preparing for Haskins to start against the Panthers.

There’s no question, Washington boosts its chances to beat the Panthers with Smith starting. He is 4-1 as a starter this season. Haskins is 1-4 and was benched after starting the first four games of the season.

Washington controls its on destiny towards the postseason. A win Sunday and a New York Giants’ loss, Washington clinches the NFC East division. A loss puts Washington in danger of falling out of first place and missing the playoffs.
