The Washington Capitals have signed 39-year old goalie Craig Anderson to a professional tryout agreement, the club announced Sunday.
Anderson spent the last 10 seasons with the Ottawa Senators. Last season he appeared in 34 games, registering a 11-17-2 record with a 3.25 goals-against-average and a .902 save percentage.
Throughout his career, Anderson has a 2.84 GAA and a .913 save percentage that has spanned 648 games with stops in Colorado, Florida and Chicago prior to Ottawa.
The Capitals are back in the market for a backup goalie after New York Rangers legend Henrik Lundqvist announced he would not play in 2021 due to a heart issue.
The 23-year old Ilya Samsonov has been tabbed the starting netminder heading into the season. Anderson will be expected to compete with Vitek Vanecek, 24, for the backup role in training camp.
