Bradley Beal fumbled away the Washington Wizards’ chance of picking up their first win of the season Thursday night. Trailing 129-128 with less than 15 seconds to go, Beal appeared headed to a clear go-ahead layup. However, the Wizards’ leading scorer lost control of the ball on his way up to the rim.
The turnover proved costly and spearheaded a series of gaffes for the Wizards late in the game leading to a 133-130 loss to the Chicago Bulls. As a result the Wizards are now 0-5 on the season, and searching for answers to get control of a year that appears to be slipping away.
Beal’s mistake was compounded by Rui Hachimura overthrowing a pass to Thomas Bryant to seal the Wizards’ fate.
Both Beal and Thomas Bryant each scored 28 points. Russell Westbrook become the second player in NBA history to post four straight triple-doubles with 22 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds. However, their efforts were simply not enough. And now the Wizards have the worst record in the NBA as the calendar turns to 2021.
