Maryland head coach Mark Turgeon announced senior guard Darryl Morsell was taken to the trauma center after taking an elbow in the face of the Terrapins’ 84-73 loss to Michigan. Turgeon did not elaborate on the extent of the injury. His parents are expected to join him at the hospital.
Morsell was hit in the face in the first half by Michigan sophomore forward Franz Wagner while attempting a shot.
Morsell was attended by team trainers after walking off the court. He would not return to the game.
Morsell’s loss proved detrimental to the Terrapins in their upset bid. At the time of his injury, Maryland (6-4, 1-3 in Big Ten) led 44-39. However, Michigan (8-0, 3-0) outscored Maryland 45-29 the final 22 minutes of the game.
