Nation’s top inside linebacker Terrence Lewis commits to Maryland

The nation’s top inside linebacker, five-star recruit Terrence Lewis announced his commitment to the Maryland Terrapins over his hometown Miami Hurricanes and Tennessee Vols. Lewis made his decision known during the All-American Bowl: Declaration Special.

Lewis is the nation’s 16th ranked player overall, according to 247Sports. He becomes Maryland’s fourth-highest ranked recruit in the 247 era. Only Stefon Diggs, Wesley Jefferson and Melvin Alaeze.

He also is the program’s sixth five-star recruit that includes freshman wide receiver Rakim Jarrett (class of 2020).

The 6-foot-1, 200-pound linebacker from Miami Central High (FL) initially committed to Tennessee in April but de-committed in November.

His ties with Maryland assistant Brian Williams, a native of Florida, helped lure him to College Park. Lewis will enroll early to Maryland.

The addition of Lewis boosts Maryland to the 18th-ranked recruiting class in the nation. He joins a stellar recruiting class that is highlighted by several defensive studs. That includes four-stars defensive end Demeioun Robinson, outside linebacker Branden Jennings, and defensive tackles Taizse Johnson and Tommy Akingbesot among others.
