Terry McLaurin touchdown ends Washington’s opening-drive scoreless drought

The Washington Football Team went the first 15 games of the season without scoring on their opening drive. That drought came to an end Sunday night in their must-win regular season finale.

Alex Smith found Terry McLaurin, who has been hobbled with an high-ankle sprain, in the end zone for a five-yard touchdown pass to give Washington an early 7-0 lead over the Philadelphia Eagles.

Washington was the only team in the NFL this season not to score on their opening drive until the Smith-McLaurin connection.

Early three-and-outs and punts were a customary thing for Washington. It led to early struggles and slow starts throughout the season.

Fortunately, Washington saved its best for last. And the timing is perfect. With a win over the Eagles, Washington clinches the NFC East division title and a home playoff game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the wild card round.
