Georgetown opts out of Patriot League spring football season

Georgetown announced their football program will forgo participation in the Patriot League’s 2021 spring season due to COVID-19 limitations. The Hoyas plan to work to bring players back for training in the spring to prepare for the traditional 2021 fall season, if conditions allow and within permissible local and federal guidelines.

The Patriot League canceled its 2020 fall sports in July, including the football season due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The conference instead will hold a five-game season this spring. Six teams will be split over two divisions. Colgate, Fordham and Holy Cross will play in the North division. Meanwhile, Bucknell, Lafayette and Lehigh will play in the South division.

The season is set to start on March 13. It concludes with a Conference Championship on April 17.
